Creepy Conservatives

There are many things in this world I don’t understand. Physics, Pop Music, Coca Cola and the intrusive cell phone user definitely top the list. To that I would also add those who don’t stand right and walk left and those who feel that it is ok to answer the cell phone while at the urinal. All of these things are culturally bizarre.

Then there are the things that totally creep me out. The Globe and Mail’s true, almost religious, belief in the infallibility of the market is a little creepy. People’s obsession with reality TV and all things celebrity is also a little creepy. But, by far the creepiest group of people that I have ever encountered is the Young Conservative.

Just the name freaks me out. They are young, they are mad and they are going to show that frustration by joining the Conservative Party??? I can only imagine their meetings: young wannabe professionals gathering around discussing how they will spend their trust funds. Well that and screaming about how terrible the Liberals are. Their idea of coming out party: making the rich richer.

I mean, really, who are young conservatives? What is it about being young that would draw someone to the Conservative party in the first place? Is it the old men in suits? Or better yet, throwing back the social fabric to the 1950s…or making Oil Men richer? More pollution? I mean really, these all seem like things young people can embrace. And of course, the age old question: if you are Conservative when you are young where do you go when you are 30 or 40 or 50?

Take a walk on the darkside with an old (young) Conservative activist here. If you are truely intrigued, do a google search on "Canadian Young Conservative" A warning: you too may have to join the young, urban professionals who want a tax cut...somehow, this act of mercy will make the world better for them, I mean you...
