Labour on Film
LabourStart, a website dedicated to covering the latest news and events concerning trade unions around the world, has released a list of all time favorite labour films. You can read about them here. While the list is dominated by American films, it does represent some of that country's best films and film directors. Among those chosen were: Norma Rae, On the Waterfront, Hoffa, Bread and Roses, and my personal favorite, Matewan by director John Sayles. It is not on the list, but I would also include another Sayles film: Eight Men Out which tells the story of the 1919 Chicago White (Black) Sox. For those of you not familiar with Sayles work, he is one of the most progressive American film makers today. You can read more about him here.
